A waterfall island — where the stone runs vertically down the sides to the floor — is one of the most requested upgrades in GTA kitchens, and one of the most misunderstood on price. Here is what it adds and why.
Why it costs more than it looks
A waterfall edge needs extra slab material for the vertical panels, and the panels are mitered and bookmatched to the top so the veining wraps the corner seamlessly. That mitering and vein-matching is precise fabrication labour, which is where most of the added cost sits — not the extra stone alone.
Getting the veining right
On a marble-look quartz, a waterfall only looks premium if the pattern flows continuously around the corner. That requires cutting the panels from the right part of the slab and dry-fitting before install. A fabricator who rushes this produces a mismatched corner that reads as cheap, so experience matters more here than on a flat top.
